Battery Care - Hints on care of your battery for longer life

  • The battery should be firmly secured in the cradle. A loosely held battery vibrates and bounces causing damage of the container and plates.
  • Ensure that the cable clamps fit tightly and properly on the terminals.
  • The top of the battery must be kept clean and dry to avoid surface leakage.Petroleum jelly ( Vaseline) should be appliedto cable clamps and terminals. Never apply grease. Terminal corrosion, dirt & moisture cause loss of the power and make the battery week.
  • Get your vehicle fan belt, electrical wiring dynamo or alternator regulator setting checked regularly. A faulty electrical system will immediately damage the battery.
  • The electrolyte level should be maintained up to the bottom level of the filling hole.
  • Use only distilled water for topping. Do not top up with acid / electrolyte / mineral water / tap water.
  • The recommended specific gravity of fully charged battery is 1.230 + / - 0.005 at 27 c. In case of any deviation from this appropriate action in correcting the same need to be taken.
  • The alternator charging voltage setting measured across the battery terminals must be maintained at 14.2 to 14.4 volts for 12 volt system and 28.42 to 28.80 for 24 volt system.
  • To get maximum it is advised that battery and auto electrical checks to be carried out once in every three months.
  • It must be ensured that the battery connections are made in the vehicle correctly. (Pos wire to Pos terminal & neg. wire to neg terminal)
  • In industrial application apply load, electrical wring, Inverter / Ups checked regularly. Faulty electrical equipment will immediately damage the battery.
  • The Inverter / Ups charging voltage setting measured accross the battery terminals must be maintained at 13.5 to 13.7 volts and cut off voltage 10.5 to 10.6 v.
